A 24 year old married woman, resident of Seawoods, pregnant for the first time, has been following up with us for ANC care.
As a routine we asked her to do a NT NB scan at 12-13 weeks of gestation.
It came to us as a sad news that patient has had a missed abortion as it stopped developing after 8 weeks of gestation age.
It is a good thing that now it is our protocol to do NT NB scan.
Earlier it used to be reserved only for high risk patients like elderly patients or someone with a previous child who was mentally retarded or abnormal child was born in near family and relatives.
This sonography gives us an opportunity to monitor fetal wellbeing.
Otherwise , directly we would be doing a 5th month's scanning- Anomaly scan , that may be too late.
