Determining healthy pregnancy at 12 weeks of gestation-Abortion tablets in Kharghar,near me

A 24 year old married woman, resident of Seawoods, pregnant for the first time, has been following up with us for ANC care.

As a routine we asked her to do a NT NB scan at 12-13 weeks of gestation.

It came to us as a sad news that patient has had a missed abortion as it stopped developing after 8 weeks of gestation age.

It is a good thing that now it is our protocol to do NT NB scan.

Earlier it used to be reserved only for high risk patients like elderly patients or someone with a previous child who was mentally retarded or abnormal child was born in near family and relatives.

This sonography gives us an opportunity to monitor fetal wellbeing.

Otherwise , directly we would be doing a 5th month's scanning- Anomaly scan , that may be too late.

As a practicing Gynecologist of Kharghar, Navi Mumbai for many years, this is a trend that I am observing that the number of patients seeking consultation for unwanted pregnancy is on decline.

This is an observation for past 2 month.

One factor may be population thinning over past couple of weeks.

Wife with kids may have gone to home town and husband only is staying behind.

Colleges are shut, and student population also has gone to home-town with no interactions and sexual encounters happening.

A 34 year old women, resident of CBD Belapur, sought consultation for early pregnancy.

She has had one living girl child of 9 years of age by Cesarean delivery for Breech presentation.

A 29 year old married Sikh woman, resident of Kharghar underwent abortion by surgical method- D&E- Dilatation and Evacuation as her pregnancy was reaching 11 weeks and she could not know that she is pregnant as her previous menses have been irregular.

The procedure was uneventful and she was discharged on the same day.

It has been more than 2 months that she did this abortion.

After abortion process , she got her next menses just a couple of days back.

But they were so heavy that she had to take anti-fibrinolytics medications to stop her menses.

We had even done an Ultrasound , post abortion, to check if the abortion process was complete and the report had been normal.

After abortion process generally it is seen that the next menses are irregular, they may be early, they may be late, they may be scanty, they may be heavy.
We have no control over that

Yesterday on 12.10.19, a team of doctors from Kharghar Doctor's Association met with Mr Haresh Kini, a eminent local politician and candidate for upcoming MLA election.

The agenda had been to discuss burning issues that the residents of Kharghar are facing.

One of the health services related issue is lack of Government provided health care center in this node.

The one existing Urban Health Center at sector 13, Kharghar has very rudimentary services.
It does not even have an Ultrasound machine.

For a woman desiring legal abortion either by pills or surgical D&C, has to go to a private practitioner and pay the charges as per their norms.

Safe abortion is every woman's right .
