So many times, it has been our experience that a consultation is sought by unmarried couple for unwanted pregnancy.

But they will not reveal the true status of their relationship.

The man in question invariably will pose as a brother or a cousin or a friend, pretending to be helping our the troubled sister or friend.

To our experienced eye, they don't escape, but they surely make our job of counselling difficult.

If they would speak the truth, assessment of social circumstances will be easier for us which makes a very important part of management.

Getting abortion pills timely is a priority

A patient from Mulund, Mumbai, called in distress . She is unmarried and had gotten pregnant. obviously she wanted to abort. She must not have gotten medical help closer to home, that is why she traveled to my clinic in such adverse scenario to get help.

To support her, we went some extra miles ahead, got the ultrasound done, gave her abortion pills in the same sitting.
Even though it required us to wait patiently in our clinic for one extra hour.

Number of unwanted pregnancies are decreasing- Changing trend or something else

As a practicing Gynecologist of Kharghar, Navi Mumbai for many years, this is a trend that I am observing that the number of patients seeking consultation for unwanted pregnancy is on decline.

This is an observation for past 2 month.

One factor may be population thinning over past couple of weeks.

Wife with kids may have gone to home town and husband only is staying behind.

Colleges are shut, and student population also has gone to home-town with no interactions and sexual encounters happening.

As people are scared of their livelihoods, they may be cautious too not taking any chances with unprotected intercourse

So many factors, but a good and welcome change

खारघर में रहने वाली कई गर्भवती महिलाओं को काफी दिक्कत का सामना करना पड़ रहा है।

सम्पूर्ण सुरक्षा के इंतज़ाम ना होने के कारण कई अस्पताल डिलीवरी या एबॉर्शन की सुविधाएं पूरी तरह से नहीं दे पा रहे हैं।

In these challenging, disruptive and uncertain times, I have lot of sympathy for those who are dealing with unwanted pregnancy.

The Gynecologist's clinic is not open for routine consultation

Ultrasound is very difficult to get done

If any complication arises, it seems very difficult to manage as personal vehicles are stopped, no petrol is available for them and so on and so forth.

What is the solution..?

Does not seem to be any....

Only thing is that electively we can postpone procedure of abortion for another month.

It is true that, after a month Abortion tablets can't be given but surgical cleaning known as D&E can be done safely upto 12 weeks of duration.

This is my sincere advise to of them who are struggling with unwanted/ undesired pregnancy, to wait, let this period pass and then only act.

A 22 year old female resident , of Kharghar came to OPD with 15 weeks pregnancy .

Her previous menstrual period had been irregular & she could not know about her pregnancy in time.

She is a law student and still dependent on her parents financially .

Her boyfriend accompanied her .

The couple wanted to abort the pregnancy .

This being a 2nd trimester MTP , the hospital stay charges of procedure are more , the procedure is lengthy & complicated .

Adequate counselling was done so that they understand all the pros & cons .

If only they had used regular contraceptive like condoms or oral contraceptive pill , they would not have gotten into so much trouble .
